All About A Name
I talked with someone about a website over the weekend and found out that my comfortable Events by Jen is already taken! Now I have to buckle-down and come up with a creative name for my business so that I can make something of this year's wedding season. I feel like I have hit a wall; nothing seems right and everything that does is already taken. I have tried everything - name generators, randomly searching google for all things "wedding" - I have nothing. Someone suggested doing something with my initials, but I don't like that. Darn Jen who lives in New York and has a great website! The good news is that I made some progress with the design of my website and feel like once I do come up with a name that it will be great.

Networking, Networking
Today I got a lot accomplished! I have found that if I am going to start my own business then I need to pretend that I am at work. I need to carve out hours in my day to get work done; otherwise I end up doing dishes and dancing to Elmo all day. I got my website design done on paper and now that is off to the IT department (otherwise known as Brian and computer savvy friend). I also got a business plan on paper, joined all of the event planner Meetup groups that are available in my area and signed up for a workshop on how to successfully network myself. I got a great book from the library called How to Start a Home-Based Event Planning Business by Jill Moran. Her book is very clear and concise and really gives some great advice to get started. Last but not least, I also posted an ad on Craigslist offering my services free of charge to any event planners in the area that would have me. I figure that as long as I am not working, that I might as well get some more experience and knowledge under my belt. The plan tomorrow is to send out an introductory letter to event-industry businesses to attempt to network even further. You know what they say, "it's not what you know but who you know that makes the difference".
